The North Georgia Wine Experience

North Georgia wine is wonderful! Recently, we spent the day touring the wineries in the Jasper/Ellijay area. We were pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of the wines being produced.  We thought that a day trip to the wineries would certainly be a great way to spend the day. There are some lovely local eateries to be enjoyed for lunch or dinner. On the weekend, most of the wineries offer live entertainment.

The North Georgia Mountains provide the perfect terrain, soil, drainage, and elevation necessary for their vinyards to produce wines that reveal this “sense of place,” or terrior, which separates theirs from those made in other geographically diverse regions. The soil composition is very much like that of Italy’s Piedmont region, which produces some of the most prestigious wines in the world. Viognier and Merlot grapes are carefully tended under the plentiful Georgia sunshine and the results are fantastic!
